Ex-ambassador to face charges of illegal land possession
Detectives also discovered that Joshua obtained another title for parcel 4522 in 2019 though a title in the deceased name existed.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has preferred charges against Kenya’s former envoy to Iran Joshua Gatimu Igweta for allegedly grabbing two parcels of land including one belonging to a deceased person.
The recommendation follows findings from an inquiry by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations into complaints related to illegal land possession by the former Ambassador involving parcel No. Meru/Akaiga/1405.

The investigations revealed the existence of two parcels of land; Meru/Akaiga/1405 and Meru/Akaiga/4522 both originating from Meru/Akaiga/381.
It was established that parcel 4522 was registered to Igweta Itaru (now deceased) and 1405 to one M’Mwithimbu M’arachi, which was transferred to him by the deceased but Joshua was in illegal possession of it.
The detectives also discovered that Joshua obtained another title for parcel 4522 in 2019 though a title in the deceased name existed.
The ODPP yesterday said it was satisfied with the findings by DCI and consequently preferred three counts.
“The DPP has therefore decided to charge Joshua Gatimu Igweta with obtaining land registration by false pretences, forcible detainer and intermeddling with the property of a deceased person,” a July 25 release read in part.
